The most
famous local product is mastic.
Known throughout the world, mastic is an appellation d’origine contrôlée (= controlled designation of origin) product growing only in the South of Chios, where it has been raised since the 8th-7th century A.D. This natural product is cultivated entirely by hand and is nowadays used in medicine, pharmacy, dentistry and cosmetics. At the central market of the town of Chios, you can buy mastic-based jams and sweets, brandies and, of course, local delicious ouzo!

Despite the
fact that Chios is famous for spirits like ouzo, it is also land of many vineyards, proud of the varietes and international awards presented
to its wine. However, it has been
offering the Fresh Beer Chios blonde ale unpasteurised and unfiltered. It
is made in Kampos, from select varieties by malt and whole hops cones using water from Panagia
Voitheia Springs. Brewing takes place slowly and in the
traditional manner without any use of preservatives or catalysts; this is why
this beer should be kept in the fridge!
